DESCRIPTION
The Seeed Studio Grove Base for XIAO is the essential expansion shield for makers, engineers, and IoT developers working with the XIAO microcontroller series. Designed with portability and rapid prototyping in mind, this compact shield eliminates jumper wires and soldering headaches by exposing all 14 GPIO pins of the XIAO in a clean, structured layout — ready to interface with over 300 Grove modules from Seeed's ecosystem.
At its core, the board features an embedded lithium battery management chip paired with a dedicated battery bonding pad. This allows you to power your XIAO project directly from a 3.7V LiPo battery and recharge it seamlessly, making it an ideal choice for wearable builds, portable sensors, and battery-operated field devices — use cases that are increasingly common across Singapore's smart home, industrial IoT, and maker communities.
Eight Grove connectors are laid out across the board, including two Grove I2C ports and one Grove UART port, giving you direct, solder-free access to a wide range of sensors, actuators, displays, and communication modules. Whether you are building an environmental monitor, a BLE-enabled wearable, or a compact edge AI node, the Grove Base removes the friction of hardware assembly so you can focus on your application logic.
For developers who need additional storage headroom, an SPI Flash bonding pad is reserved onboard, allowing you to expand the memory space of your XIAO beyond its native capacity. An onboard power switch and a charging status indicator LED round out the user-friendly feature set, giving you clear visibility into power state at a glance.
The board also supports a breakable PCB design through stamped hold perforations. By separating along the break line, the footprint reduces to just 25 × 39 mm and the weight drops from 13 g to 10 g — a meaningful advantage when space and mass budgets are tight in wearable or embedded enclosure designs.
