DESCRIPTION

The Analog EMG (Electromyography) Sensor is a surface muscle activity detection module designed for makers, researchers, biomedical engineers, and robotics developers. It captures surface electromyography (sEMG) signals generated by muscle contractions and neural activity, making it an essential component for human-computer interaction projects, prosthetics research, rehabilitation engineering, and fitness tracking systems.

This sensor integrates both an amplification circuit and an analogue filtering circuit on a single compact PCB. It amplifies weak sEMG signals within ±1.5mV by 1,000 times while actively suppressing common noise sources — particularly 50Hz power frequency interference prevalent in Singapore and Southeast Asia — through differential input configuration. The analogue output signal uses 1.5V as a reference voltage, with an output range of 0–3.0V, making it directly compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and other 3.3V/5V microcontroller platforms.

The effective signal spectrum of 20Hz–500Hz covers the full physiological EMG range, enabling accurate capture of both fine motor and gross motor muscle activity. After calibration on a specific muscle group, the sensor can count muscle activation events such as push-up repetitions or bicep curl counts, detect muscle contraction intensity, and serve as an input trigger for gesture-based human-computer interfaces.

Compatible with standard disposable Ag/AgCl gel electrodes, the sensor is easy to deploy for rapid prototyping and academic research in Singapore's polytechnics, universities, and innovation labs. It is not a certified medical device and is intended for educational, research, and development use only.
