Distance and obstacle sensors detect the presence and range of objects in front of a robot or device, enabling collision avoidance, proximity detection, and accurate distance measurement without physical contact.

The range includes HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensors, IR obstacle avoidance sensors, Sharp analogue IR distance sensors, VL53L0X and VL53L1X time-of-flight laser ranging modules, and ultrasonic rangefinders with I2C output.

These sensors are used in Arduino and Raspberry Pi robots for obstacle avoidance and wall-following, in drones for ground proximity detection, in smart bins for fill-level sensing, in automation systems for object detection, and in STEM education projects demonstrating ranging and feedback control.
