Relay modules allow microcontrollers to switch high-voltage and high-current loads such as mains appliances, solenoids, and motors that cannot be driven directly from GPIO pins. They use an electromagnetic relay isolated from the control circuit, protecting the microcontroller from voltage spikes.
The range covers single-channel through to 8-channel relay modules, optocoupler-isolated variants for improved noise immunity, solid-state relay modules for silent switching, and relay shields designed to stack directly onto Arduino boards.
Relay modules are used in home automation to control lights, fans, and appliances; in industrial applications for machine control; in irrigation systems for valve switching; in alarm systems; and in STEM education projects teaching electrical isolation and mains-level switching concepts.
