DESCRIPTION
The Ethernet Shield W5100 is an expansion board designed for Arduino boards, allowing them to connect to the internet or local network using the Ethernet protocol. It is based on the Wiznet W5100 Ethernet chip, which is a full-featured Ethernet controller with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack, supporting both TCP and UDP protocols.
The W5100 chip communicates with the Arduino board using the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) protocol. It utilizes the SPI pins (MISO, MOSI, SCK, and SS) on the Arduino board for data transfer. It also includes a microSD card slot, enabling the Arduino board to read and write data to a micro SD card. This feature can be used for data logging or serving web pages from the card.
The Ethernet Shield W5100 is compatible with various Arduino boards, including the Arduino Uno, Arduino Mega, and Arduino Leonardo. It can be easily connected to the Arduino board by stacking it on top of the Arduino.
